Luc Fortin is a guitarist from Quebec, living in the Montreal area. He holds a master’s degree in musical composition from the Université de Montréal and has over 40 years of experience. He has run his own recording and publishing company. He also played in his own group, the Fortin-Léveillé duo, with whom he recorded several albums, earning him a nomination for Quebec’s celebrated Félix awards for music artists. Committed to defending the rights of musicians and working for their fair remuneration, Luc Fortin became president of AFM Local 406 in 2006, then president and CEO in 2019. The Quebec Musicians’ Guild (Local 406) is the third largest AFM local in terms of membership, and the largest in Canada. It represents some 3,200 people. His other involvement with the music community includes serving as Vice-President on the Board of Directors of the Fonds d’Investissement de la Culture et des Communications (FICC), and on the Montreal Board of Directors of the Musicians’ Rights Organization of Canada (MROC). He also served as a trustee of the Musicians’ Pension Fund of Canada from 2009 to 2013 and sat on the board of copyright collective ReSound in 2022.

In June 2023, he joined AFM’s IEB (International Executive Board), thanks to the support of his colleagues from other U.S. and Canadian locals, a historic victory, as it was the first time Canada was represented on the IEB, outside of the Canada vice-presidency. In addition to being an accomplished artist, Luc Fortin is a man committed to his community, human, honest, and authentic.
