In less than three weeks, the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada (AFM) will begin bargaining with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) for the film and motion picture contract. Now it’s our turn to negotiate a fair and sustainable contract for our members – just like our fellow unions WGA and SAG-AFTRA did.

WHAT ARE WE FIGHTING FOR? We’re fighting for our fair share. That means better compensation, including an industry-standard and sustainable streaming residual, wage increases, and health care improvements. It means fighting for AI protections so that your work is not captured and used without permission or compensation. And it means ending the outrageous anti-union practice of ‘yellow dog’ contracts, a practice that drives down wages.

The AFM has been getting ready for this moment for some time. Over the last year, AFM Fair Share for Musicians has internally organized and held town hall conversations with rank-and-file bargaining unit members to ensure this contract reflects the diversity of our needs and aspirations. Congratulations to the hundreds of musicians who have attended meetings, volunteered for action alerts, and supported our actor, singer, and writer colleagues over the past year. Now is the time for our biggest display of collective action, yet.

Collaborating with and learning from our sibling unions, WGA and SAG-AFTRA, during their strikes last year, we redefined solidarity. We secured new commitments from political, labor, and entertainment industry leaders to join us in our fight.
