Boise Phil Wins Union Recognition
Musicians of the Boise Philharmonic voted overwhelmingly to join the the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada (AFM)—96% voting in favor. The philharmonic management agreed today to recognize AFM as the collective bargaining representative for the musicians.
These musicians joined together in union to amplify their voices and have a seat at the table. Watch the Boise Philharmonic musicians announce to their audience that joining AFM is “an important step towards a bright future in which we can be heard as professionals.”
“We welcome these amazing musicians to our union. Collective bargaining will enable the musicians of the Boise Philharmonic to have a real voice in their workplace—everyone deserves to be heard,” said AFM International President Ray Hair.
Most working symphonic musicians in North America are AFM members and have collectively negotiated strong contracts with benefits. Contract negotiations are scheduled to begin later this month.
