Union Yes
Thanks to a successful organizing campaign, musicians at the Olney Theatre overwhelmingly voted in favor of forming a union. 68% of the musicians said yes to AFM in an election conducted by the National Labor Relations Board.
As musical productions became increasingly popular at the Maryland venue, musicians felt it was vital that they have input. Sadly musicians were being left out of the decision-making process leading to unfair treatment and unsafe conditions.
That’s why they formed a committee to organize their fellow musicians to win improved working conditions and the respect they deserve. The Olney musicians—many already AFM members—will be working with AFM Local 161-710 preparing for contract negotiations, which they anticipate beginning shortly.
