Statement on Recent Executive Order on Federal Collective Bargaining

Statement from AFM President Tino Gagliardi:

The American Federation of Musicians condemns the Trump Administration’s latest assault on working people. Friday’s attempt at stripping federal employees of their collective bargaining rights is a threat to our union and our democracy.

We stand in solidarity with the public servants whose livelihoods would be upended by this blatant and callous union-busting. Calling into question the dedication of these selfless men and women is an attack on us all. We will stand together to preserve our fundamental right to collective action.

The Trump Administration is not only dismantling the rights of our federal workforce, it is threatening all unions and the foundation of our middle class. This executive order would worsen economic disparities and harm hardworking Americans everywhere.

All people deserve the dignity and respect that comes with negotiating terms of employment. This executive order undermines this process and disregards our First Amendment rights. Workers must have the ability to advocate for themselves and work collaboratively with employers to forge agreements that are equitable and just.
