Improved Royalties
Musicians now have a new tool to ensure royalty payments are accurate and paid quicker. SoundExchange, the non-profit organization that collects and distributes royalties for sound recordings, unveiled the ISRC Search Portal this week.
The search portal improves efficiency and transparency by providing 24/7 access to International Standard Recording Codes (ISRCs). ISRCs are the standard identification system for sound and music video recordings. Each ISRC is a unique and permanent identifier for a specific recording, independent of the format on which it appears (CD, audio file, etc.) or the rights owners involved.
While the search portal doesn’t list every ISRC ever issued, it contains the vast majority of commercially active recordings, with more listings added every day. The search portal will ensure greater accuracy in payments for artists and improve transparency for the entire industry.
