Ron Bauers Passes Away at 60

I regret to inform you that Ron Bauers passed away on January 12th.  The cause of his death is unknown.

Ron began consulting for the AFM’s Symphonic Services Division (SSD) as a financial analyst in 1992. Since then, he assisted countless locals, committees, and musicians with his financial analyses and many presentations at player conferences and seminars. He helped them better understand their respective orchestra finances and increase their knowledge and power at the negotiating table.  SSD negotiators could not have done their jobs nearly as well if were not for Ron’s knowledge and advice. In addition, Ron was a witty and often hilarious presenter who made economics and financial statements accessible to all. He had the rare combination of being a performing musician with a full understanding of how symphony orchestras function – he was a guitarist in Local 70-558, as well as former member of the board of the local. He also had a strong economics background and was professor of economics at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

On behalf of all at the AFM, I would like to offer my deepest condolences on the untimely passing of Ron Bauers.  I personally had the opportunity to work with Ron on many occasions and he always had an enthusiasm for his work and the well-being of musicians that was matched by few others in the industry.  He displayed the highest integrity, earned the trust of all who knew him, and worked tirelessly to be the best in his field.  We will all miss him dearly.

Sincerely,

Thomas F. Lee
