AFM Reaches New Commercials Agreement
On April 8th, 2010 the AFM and the JPC (Joint Policy Committee) concluded negotiations for a new Television and Radio Commercial Announcements Agreement effective immediately (subject to ratification) through October 16, 2012.
Subject to ratification, the new agreement provides for wage increases (sidemusician minimum $115 to $120 and $230 to $240) for session rates, initial use fees ($32 to $34 and $64 to $68.) Cycle payments will maintain the same relationship to wages so will therefore increase accordingly. The increased use fees will apply to any product whose music tracks were recorded after October 16, 2009. All other wages not captured by these terms are increased by 4.35%.
The option of buying eight-week play cycles (at 38% of a one year cycle) in non-broadcast and new media was added to the agreement.
Pension contributions for individual musicians will increase from 12% to 12.48% (June 1, 2010) and then to 13.08% (April 1, 2011.)
The Agreement itself will now be called “Commercial Announcements Agreement” to reflect the diversity of non- broadcast and new media in which commercial announcements now appear.
New wage charts will soon be posted on this website and ratification materials will be sent out in the near future.
